Pet sitting in Pulborough
We often say that if we’d ever have dogs of our own, we would like to have Greyhounds or Whippets. So we were delighted to have the opportunity to pet sit in Thakeham with Lurcher Raffles, Whippet Violet, and Italian Greyhound Rocco! This trio of long dogs, while varying in size, get along famously and we’re very happy to say we’ve completed multiple house sits with them, with more dates lined up in our calendar!
Thakeham village has a network of public footpaths that are perfect for our dog walks, and we’ve enjoyed exploring different routes to change up our daily routine and give the dogs a variety of exciting smells to sniff and paths to follow. Raffles experiences reactivity to other dogs, as well as occasional patchy recall, so his owners ask us to keep him on lead while we’re out and about. Raffles, at 13 years old, is more than happy to stay on his lead and toddle along beside us while Violet and Rocco zigzag across the paths and poke their long noses in and out of hedgerows. Twice a week during our pet sits with them, we’ll take all three dogs to the local ‘Bark Park’ – an enclosed area where Raffles can have some off lead time. Despite his age, he can still move fast when he wants to – especially when a ball is thrown!
During one of our pet sits with Violet, Rocco and Raffles, we discovered Knepp Rewilding Project not far from their home. The estate has a few different walking routes of varying distances, all of which we’ve now walked during our time together! Dogs have to be kept on lead due to the roaming wildlife and blooming flora, but Violet, Rocco and Raffles don’t mind as we stroll through the fields and end up back at the cafe for a rest amongst the flowers.
Back at home, like any long dog, these three can snooze for hours! It’s sweet to see Violet and Raffles curl up together to doze, while Rocco more often than not will jump up into one of our laps for a cuddle while he sleeps. Occasionally, one of them will burrow into their envelope bed and we’ll only know where they are from a paw or a snoot poking out from under the covers!

We’ve really bonded with all three dogs, and now when we arrive to pet sit for them they greet us excitedly like old friends. As full time pet sitters, this is one of the best parts of our job – being able to see how much dogs trust us and are instantly able to settle with us when we arrive for another stay, as we’ve spent so many weeks having fun together!

Very happy dogs
Chris and Suze have been amazing housesitters, looking after our three dogs. It is the first time we have had housesitters and they were perfect! The dogs loved them and we couldn’t have asked for more. It was so good to come home to a well looked after house and very happy dogs.
