Pet sitting in Holt
Dog sitting in North Norfolk became an annual tradition for us, as we were invited back each year to care for Winnie, Inca and Pippin! These three dogs had such different personalities, but all got along so well together. Inca, the oldest at around 14, loved a good snooze but would roll over for endless belly rubs, even pushing our hands with her paw if we weren’t patting her in the right place! Winnie was around 4 years old and loved to run up and down the long, grassy garden. She absolutely adored Chris and would usually be found by his side, either enjoying ear scratches or cleaning his face with big, wet kisses! Little Pippin came into the fold at just 10 months old, and quickly settled into life with Inca and Winnie. She was full of boundless puppy energy, but at home she’d usually be found curled up in a blanket or burying her face into our arms to keep warm.
During our various stays together we visited Holt Country Park, where the girls would happily sniff along the criss-crossing pathways, or collect pinecones for us to throw in the woodland tin can alley! We’d also visit Holkham Estate and the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea every time we house sat with them – both were favourites of ours for long dog walks along the sand, through the forest or along the paved pathways at the Estate. Being so close to the Norfolk coast, we were spoilt for choice with beach walkies, also heading to Sheringham and Beeston Bump to enjoy watching the girls exploring rock pools, paddling in the waves and getting sandy paws as they excitedly ran together along the beach.

Being National Trust members meant that we could take the girls for walkies at Blickling Estate in the Springtime to admire the incredible bluebell woods – a fantastic backdrop for some pawtraits! They loved walking along the paths in a perfect line and sniffing the gorgeous flowers, and snuffling at the fresh molehills in between running around with new four-legged friends.

Back at home, there was an abundance of nature to discover in the garden. Each morning we took food down to the pond to feed the owner’s resident swans, and over our stays we saw a heron fishing in the river that ran through the garden, a barn owl swooping overhead, a stoat running along the lane as well as a plethora of pheasants, grouse and even little frogs exploring the playground that was our back garden! Winnie, Inca and Pippin were incredibly well-behaved around all the wildlife, and we never once had to worry about them chasing the birds!

The perfect partnership
Suze and Chris sat for me for the third time and yet again proved themselves to be the perfect partnership. They are calm, supremely well organised and so kind to my dogs, plenty of cuddles, lots of fun and games and really long walks. They kept me updated on a regular basis and sent some wonderful photos - Chris needs to go professional as a photographer. They also looked after my holiday cottage, far better than I do, in fact! It has never looked cleaner. They also coped admirably with the inevitable mountains of washing. I cannot recommend Suze and Chris highly enough, they are just amazing, greeting me with lunch and cake on my return. I do hope they will come and sit for me again.
